Last week marked the unveiling of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia, taking over from Henry Cavill in The Witcher Season 4. An intriguing aspect was the reshoot of the Geralt and Vilgefortz fight scene from Season 3, prompting questions about the rationale behind this decision. Additional context has now emerged.
Geralt Of Rivia Revisited
Liam Hemsworth was chosen to play Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher in 2022, taking over the role from Henry Cavill. Fans have been eagerly awaiting his portrayal in the series, and that time has now arrived, bringing a surprising twist!
Last week, we witnessed Liam Hemsworth’s debut as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher Season 4. This introduction scene portrays the legendary fight between Geralt and Vilgefortz from various perspectives. The new season kicks off with a flash-forward, set a century after the events of our main characters, now turned into a myth.
A wandering beggar and storyteller named Stribog (played by Clive Russell) narrates the tale of Geralt of Rivia to a group of children, including one named Nimue (portrayed by Eve Ridley). Throughout the story, the children interject with their own interpretations of the fight, leading to different versions being presented.
This may explain why Liam Hemsworth is seen wearing the Season 2 armor. As Stribog corrects the inaccuracies by saying phrases like “That didn’t happen” or “He didn’t look like that,” a montage reveals a progressively more accurate depiction each time. It remains uncertain whether footage featuring Henry Cavill as Geralt will be included to debunk his portrayal as an inaccurate rendition of the legend, or if this correction solely pertains to the outdated armor and other visual elements that Liam will don.
Regrettably, an explanation for Anya Chalotra’s presence on set remains elusive. It is unclear whether she was filming a separate Yennefer scene or if there exists a version of the fight where Yennefer is also involved.
Nonetheless, only select portions of the fight are being reworked to introduce Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia. More details about this scene are expected to emerge soon.
Production for The Witcher Season 4 is underway for a 2025 debut. Andrzej Sapkowski’s latest Witcher book is slated for release in Winter 2024/2025, while The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep anime is set for a late 2024 launch.
